FDA finds contamination in several brands of diabetes drug | PBS NewsHour

by health and nutrition advice journalist
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. health regulators are telling five drugmakers to recall their versions of a widely used diabetes medication after laboratory tests found elevated levels of a contaminant linked to cancer. The Food and Drug Administration said late Thursday that several batches of the drug metformin tested positive for unsafe levels of N-Nitrosodimethylamine, a possible cancer-causing chemical that can form as a manufacturing byproduct. The agency has stepped up testing after the chemical was found in dozens of shipments of blood pressure and heartburn drugs last year, triggering recalls of Zantac and other popular over-the-counter and prescription medications. Metformin […]

A study commissioned by the government found that infections increased by 50% between 3 May and 7 June, coinciding with the rise of the Delta coronavirus variant that is now dominant in the UK. Data from nearly 110,000 swab tests carried out across England between 20 May and 7 June suggests Covid cases are doubling every 11 days, with the highest prevalence in the north-west and one in 670 people infected. MPs have approved an extension of coronavirus restrictions in England until […]

Covid jabs to become mandatory for care home staff in England | Coronavirus | The Guardian

by health and nutrition advice journalist
Covid vaccinations are to become mandatory for care home staff under plans to be announced by ministers, as they consider extending the move to all NHS staff. The controversial measure sets up a likely battle with staff in both services and could lead to the government being sued under European human rights law or equalities legislation for breaching the freedom of people who work in caring roles to decide what they put into their bodies. The Guardian understands that ministers will confirm they are pushing ahead with compulsory vaccination for most of the 1.5 million people working in social care […]

Delta variant Covid symptoms ‘include headaches, sore throat and runny nose’ | Coronavirus | The Guardian

by health and nutrition advice journalist
Headaches, a sore throat and a runny nose are the most common symptoms associated with the UK’s most widely established Covid variant, researchers have said. The data, collected as part of the app-based Zoe Covid symptom study, suggests that the Delta variant first detected in India feels like a “bad cold”, according to Tim Spector, a professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London, who is leading the work. “Covid is … acting differently now, it’s more like a bad cold,” he said. “People might think they’ve just got some sort of seasonal cold, and they still go out to […]

by health and nutrition advice journalist
The absence of policies in regards to organic items helps Walmart, Walgreens, Target, and GNC to take full advantage and sell the general public supplements that do not include the herbs on the label. The New York State chief law officer’s office conducted an examination into store-brand supplements at four national retailers– GNC, Target, Walgreens and Wal-Mart. The investigation discovered that these gigantic retailers sell dietary supplements that do not consist of the herbs defined on their labels. Furthermore, a number of these supplements consisted of potential allergens which were not identified in the ingredients list.   Typically, all these […]

I Was Wrong About Mold – Sanctuary Functional Medicine

by health and nutrition advice journalist
Mold on wall surface Okay, I have to admit when I am wrong.  Many times I have said that there seems to be no ill health issue that mold cannot cause.  In digging for any new information on mold toxicity, I ran across this article from 2016.  While even the authors admit that more research could be done to confirm their finding, I agree that their research reasonably undermines a possible connection between autism and mold toxicity… as least from the mold toxins they studied. When blaming mold for a myriad of my patient’s symptoms, I really had no strong […]
