Hold a Type 1 Tea Party for JDRF, the type 1 diabetes charity

Hold a Type 1 Tea Party

Put the kettle on and spend some quali-tea time with your friends and family by holding a Type 1 Tea Party.

On or around Sunday 21 April (National Tea Day) we’re asking people across the country to hold a Type 1 Tea Party at work, home or school to cause a stir and raise money towards finding the cure for type 1 diabetes.

Ask your friends, family or colleagues for a donation for each tea or slice of something scrumptious served… it’s a piece of cake!

Since 2016, Type 1 Tea Parties have raised a tea-rrific £35,000 for type 1 diabetes research – thank you to everyone who has been involved to date!

Get your fundraising pack

Once you’ve signed up we’ll send you a link to download the fundraising pack, as well as posters, invitations and bunting to help you promote your Type 1 Tea Party.

Hold your Type 1 Tea Party and help us to end type 1 diabetes… wouldn’t that be the icing on the cake?

Tips for tea party success

Invite guests well in advance

Set a date and time when you’ll get the maximum number of friends, family and colleagues involved.

Plan your menu

Which foods will you serve? Will you keep it simple or go to town? Tea party favourites include sandwiches, scones, cakes, sweets and fruit. Decide in advance which tea you’ll serve – a Yorkshire brew or speciality loose leaf?

Add extra sparkle

Charging for tea and cake aren’t the only ways to raise money. How about holding a raffle, treasure hunt, best bake competition, herbal tea taste test or second-hand book sale, too?

Invite a celebrity

Invite along a local celebrity, your mayor or local MP. This could bring in the crowds and help you to raise even more money.

Bring out your best tea service

Set a lovely table and bring out your teacups, saucers and infusers, together with small spoons, forks, plates and napkins.

Thank your guests

Follow up by letting your guests know how much you’ve raised and how it will help JDRF to fund vital research to find the cure for type 1 diabetes.

Pay in your donations and share your success

Remember if you’re an early bird fundraiser you’ll stand a chance to win your height in tea! Pay your donations in online at our Donate page, post updates to your social media to celebrate and share your story for our blog.

Submit your tea party stories

Whether you’re hosting a stately afternoon tea with the best china or a quick brew with some french fancies, we’d love to hear your stories. With 200 people signed up to run Type 1 Tea Parties across the country to date, we’ll feature all stories on our tea party blog.
