Avocado could be doing wonders for our waistlines and diabetes risk – but not if we eat it on toast | Daily Mail Online

by health and nutrition advice journalist
Avocados are great for your diet – but not on toast, nutrition researchers say.  It may sound obvious.  Bread, a demonized processed carb, has essentially piggybacked superfood starlet avocado to be accepted, even revered, by clean-eating evangelists.  Even the most devout avo-toasters know avocado is the Cher to bread’s Sonny, nutrition-wise.  But this new study, by researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Center for Nutrition Research, was designed to see whether fat is beneficial for weight loss and diabetes risk in obese and overweight people, as recent research suggests.  And, if so, how do you best capture its effects? Avocado […]

Unmasking the Truth #6 – Are you at risk for COVID? | Sanctuary Functional Medicine

by health and nutrition advice journalist
834views (skip to “The Sixth Question” below if you read prior questions already) Having broached the topic of masks, I want to encourage dialogue between the polarities of the debate. This is challenging given the political climate of uncivil discord rather than civil discourse.  With a vision of communities coming together to collectively determine truth and decide on policy, I offer a series of questions.  I don’t want to give answers, but questions that re-teach all of us to engage in discourse which will lead us to that vision.  Somewhere between the polar extremes, we will find the truth that […]

by health and nutrition advice journalist
A quarter of COVID-19 patients who have died in hospitals in England had diabetes, according to official figures. For the first time, NHS England has published a breakdown of deaths by pre-existing conditions. Only five per cent of victims didn’t have an underlying issue. Of the 22,332 patients who died since March 31, when pre-existing conditions began to be reported, some 5,873 (26 per cent) of patients had diabetes. The condition – affecting around 4million Britons – makes people more susceptible to developing infections. High blood sugar levels can weaken the patient’s immune system defense, making it slower to respond […]

Newly published figures showed England administered 300,173 first-dose vaccinations on Tuesday. Scotland and Wales contributed 38,484 and 22,857 respectively. Figures for Northern Ireland […]
